Similar to Ronda, Mijas is another beautiful little white Andalusian town. Again it’s high up in the mountains but unlike Ronda it has a beautiful view back over the coastal resorts.
Buses from Benalmadena to Mijas are frequent and the journey takes about 50 minutes. The scenery is beautifully as the bus winds up some pretty twisty roads. Everyone nervously watching in case the bus going to back to Benalmadena suddenly comes round the corner. Of course when this does happen these guys are pros and you would be forgiven for thinking they are driving on a wide open motorway.
All over the south at this time of the year you will see the almond trees blossoming and as soon as we arrived in Mijas we were greeted by the most amazing sugary smell of candied almonds. As soon as I had one taste I knew I had to buy a box for CB.
Mijas has so many lovely little shops to wander in and out of. One you must visit is a place called Mayan Monkeys, an incredible little chocolate shop. They literally have taps of chocolate where you can have an amazing hot chocolate. I bought some of the bars of chocolate including this incredible sea salt version with huge big chunks of sea salt – delicious!
All over the town you will see these little plant pots hanging off the building. As if these little white towns could get any prettier.
Next we move to the other side of Malaga to the town of Nerja.
